WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT?

The TdL started in 2012 as a simple conversation between two friends who decided to get a few of their other cycling obsessed pals together for a day on their bikes.

They planned the most challenging routes he could think of,  89 miles and a shorter option of 50 miles both finishing over the 'Col de Stow ' - a 15% plus final climb back into Lauder. The date was set and a few emails were sent out inviting other friends along.

However, having arranged the day it was decided the physical efforts could also raise a few pounds in sponsorship for charity.

The Steve Cully Tribute Fund at Chest Heart &Stroke Scotland (CHSS) was a fitting beneficiary - Steve was a Lauder resident and keen cyclist.

So £250 was set as a target and Steve's wife offered her best wishes and support.

About: About

"The TdL is not just another cycle event.  It raises funds in memory of my husband Steve who died aged just 42 from a heart attack.   One of the aims of the event is to fund raise for Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland, and everything raised goes towards vital research, support and advice for people affected by chest, heart and stroke illness.  But as well as that, every pedal you take is keeping you fit and healthy, building a brilliant community spirit and reinforcing the message that life is too short - get out there and enjoy it!" Rosie Cully, Lauder

The new look event is a cycling event but different to many others - the focus is on community whilst raising funds for the Steve Cully Tribute fund at CHSS and the TdL Community Fund.  The Committee and army of volunteers work incredibly hard to achieve this once a year spectacle.

There is no expectation to raise additional money in sponsorship but as everyone involved gives their time and expertise for free we would ask that you consider donating or raising money - click here to find out more
